The type of personal information we collect

How we get the personal information and why we have it
Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:
To deliver on contracts and services you have agreed with us
To respond to enquiries you have made about our services
To send you our email newsletter after you have subscribed
To give you access to our online events after you have signed up
To ensure we have consent for photographs of you taken during our events, which may be used for marketing purposes

We use cookies on our website to monitor how visitors use the site and to ensure it is operating correctly
We use the information that you have given us in order to deliver our activities, events and services, and to promote those services.
Where you have signed up to receive our newsletter, we will retain your information until you ask us to remove it. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time if you no longer want to hear from us, but some information will be archived by our email provider. If you would like to be removed completely, you can contact us directly and ask to be deleted. To do this, email hello@wearetelescope.org.
Who we share your data with
We share some data with third party service providers, in order to deliver our business activities. These organisations act as a data processor, providing you with a service on our behalf. They include:
MailChimp, which is the service we use to deliver our email marketing
Squarespace and Google, in relation to the monitoring and analysis of our website traffic, and for document management via Google Drive
YouTube and Vimeo, where you interact with a video that has been embedded on our website
AirTable, to manage our client database
We may sometimes send you information on behalf of our partners, if we think you might be interested. We will not share your data with them.
What is the lawful basis for processing your data?
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), there are several lawful bases organisations can use when processing your data. These are:

How we store your personal information
We take all reasonable steps to ensure that your data is safely and securely stored.
Subscriber data for our mailing list is stored electronically within MailChimp. Website tracking data is stored in Squarespace (our website hosts) and Google Analytics.
Our cookie policy
We use cookies to monitor traffic to our website. A cookie is a small amount of data generated by a website and saved by your web browser, which is used to remember information about you. This information does not identify you as an individual but provides general information such whether you are using a desktop or mobile device. We use this information to ensure our website provides visitors with accurate and clear information, and to ensure it is working as expected.
We use Google Analytics and Squarespace insights to monitor traffic to our website. We regularly review how many people visit our website and when, which pages they look at and which external websites they have come from (referrers).
Website users who do not want cookies to monitor their devices can opt-out by installing a browser add-on that tells the website not to send information to these third parties, such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Your data protection rights
Under data protection law, you have rights including:
Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
